We are waking up to some cold conditions today and that trend will continue through your holiday with unseasonably cool both highs and lows.   The good news is that high pressure is building into the region, leading to mostly sunny skies for Christmas and Saturday, though highs will struggle to get into the 20's for many.   As we work our way into your 7-day forecast, the cooler weather trend will continue, with fairly dry conditions. Early next week, we may see a few more clouds, though we should remain dry for the next 7 days. High pressure is building along the west coast and slowly building into the central and northern Rockies. Under this ridge pattern we will see dry weather but the ridge will trap the modified Arctic air over the state, so dry and very cold. KXLF e-Cast *               Weather Butte: Few flurries today, cold weather tonight! <http://affiliates.eblastengine.com/go.aspx?b=8189&l=127845&c=2879426           December 23, 2009           Morning Meteorologist Adam Bell with your Morning Updated E-CAST for Wednesday, December 23, 2009 As you wake up this morning, many of you are waking up to some white conditions as light snow moved in, during the overnight hours. In Bozeman, 2 inches or so has already fallen, and an additional inch or two cannot be ruled out. Further west, toward the Mining City, not as much has fallen, but enough to cause some slippery driving conditions for those holiday travelers. As we work our way through your Wednesday, the snow will taper off, and we will see drying conditions by this afternoon. Cooler air moves in, in the wake of the snow with sub-zero lows likely over the next several days. After the snow stops today, we are looking at a relatively dry weather pattern persisting into much of next week. Though cold, it will be partly sunny and dry. Your Christmas day forecast...partly cloudy and cold with highs in the low teens. KXLF e-Cast *               Evening Weather Update <http://affiliates.eblastengine.com/go.aspx?b=8221&l=128445&c=2879426           December 24, 2009         Chief Meteorologist Mike Heard with your Evening weather update for Thursday Dec. 24, 2009 Good news for Christmas Eve...increasing high clouds Thursday night will help most of us stay above zero! A few of us though will drop a little bit below zero Friday morning. A NW flow is keeping the state very cold tonight with the coldest lows likely to be along the high line with Havre and Glasgow dropping to -15 to -25 Friday morning. Overall, temperatures will be very cold statewide through Saturday under a strong High pressure ridge mostly dry and cold weather will linger. This ridge pattern will break down a little by mid week and clouds and weak instability will move back into the region. A major storm system will continue to sit and spin over the high plains of Nebraska up into the Dakota's. Some of the blizzard type weather will spill back into far Eastern Montana Friday into Saturday. Miles City to Glendive will be on the outer edge of this storm so they have the best chance for snow and strong winds and hazardous travel. The rest of Montana will continue to be dominated by the high pressure ridge pattern. Valley fog is still a concern for Western Montana Friday through early next week. Valley fog could be a widespread issue from Salt Lake City, UT to San Francisco, CA to Portland, OR to Spokane, WA over the next several days.
